Night is Day - Production notes
This page is for all of the production notes for our Scottish sci-fi series.
From August 2006 until April 2007 we had a total of 42 filmmakers and actors from the UK working for travelling expenses, warm food and the experience to work on Scotland's first ever internet TV series. We filmed all over Glasgow and we were granted permission to film in the Glasgow Necropolis, the Cloister's in Glasgow university and the viewing platform in The Lighthouse. As well as streets, alleys and parks to help bring our Scotland superhero to life!
Series 1 consists of 6 episodes, lasting from 10 minutes up to a full half hour, telling the story of Jason Mackenzie, a reluctant superhero living in the city who is trying to keep innocent people safe. Not an easy task when Mr. Philips and his henchmen are hatching an evil scheme to release demons into the city to take control of the world.
Like most low budget Scottish films, we had no budget to make the series, yet we were able to have a professional score from Steve Dunster and fantastic special effects from Andrew Caldwell and Mark Burns.
We've been featured in the January edition of SFX, Britain's most popular sci-fi / fantasy review magazine. As well as an article in The Sun and The Evening Times newspapers. Episodes 1 to 3 have been shown on SKY TV and they will be showing the other three episodes.
Martin Compston who is a rising young Scottish film actor who starred in "Sweet Sixteen" and "Monarch of the Glen", guest starred in the series 1 finale as Mr. Philips' number 1 gangster and all going well Martin will be returning half way through series 2.
In January 2008 we released the series 1 DVD which consisted of the 6 episodes that made up series 1, a making-of documentary, interviews, outtakes, production stills and some extra special features. We hope that with the sale of this DVD we'll make back the £2000 it cost to make our science fiction series to pay back our expenses and fund a second series.
From episode 3 onwards the song "Frequencies" from Glasgow band Transaudio is used as the theme tune to the series.
Indie band RocketFox contributed "Safe and Sound" and "Start All Over" to the third episode of series 1.
Series 2 kicked off filming on the 10th of May 2008 in Glasgow and as of the 24th of May episode 1 has wrapped filming. So far we've filmed in Ibrox, Dennistoun New Parish Church, The 13th Note Bar at the Tron in Glasgow and we will be filming in a castle in Tullibody with our cast and crew.
Series 2 will consist of 7 episodes, lasting 25 minutes each, and it will see Jason developing his powers and teaming up with Sakura, a wise, powerful sage who he met in the last episode of series 1, as well as meeting Lexi, a very sexy vampire. Things are about to change for DCI Sloan and DI Mullan as Inspector Billy Shipton is assigned to their team, but he believes that Mr. Philips is a modern day saint!
